Testing
The Association offers laboratory
testing for sickle cell disease or related hemoglobinopathies
free of charge. Testing is available for individuals that
live in our service area during our normal business hours
(Monday thru Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.). No appointments are
necessary.
Case Management
The Case Management Program
is designed to ensure that all persons with sickle cell disease
have access to the full array of medical, social, educational
and community services that are available in our service
area.
Newborn Screening
The Association provides
counseling to parents of infants identified by newborn screening
as having disease or trait. SCDAA-Mobile has a contract with
the State Health Department to provide counseling and follow-up
newborns that are born with disease or trait in the areas
that we serve.
Pharmacy Referrals
Financial assistance is
provided to persons with sickle cell disease for the purchase
of medicine and/or medical supplies.
Tutorial Program
The Tutorial Program provides
assistance to children with sickle cell disease in grades 1-12
during the academic school year.
Summer Enrichment
Summer Enrichment is a
continuum in the learning
process for children
with sickle cell disease in grades 1-12 during the summer
months.
SUPPORTIVE SERVICES
Individuals with sickle
cell disease may have
psychosocial problems that can be resolved more efficiently
with the appropriate assistance. As a result,
the Association offers
a number of supportive services for persons with sickle
cell disease.
Case Management Services
Case Management Services
are designed to ensure that all persons with sickle cell
disease in our service area have access to medical, social,
educational and community services. The purpose of these
services is to help improve the quality of life for our clients
that have sickle cell disease.
Career Assistance Program
The Career Assistance Program
was designed to promote vocational training, job placement,
and job retention. Clients are referred to the Job Training
Partnership Enrollment Center and the State Vocational Rehabilitation
Service where they obtain information on employment and enter
job training programs.
After School Tutorial Career Development Program
The After School Tutorial
Program is designed to promote academic success for students
with sickle cell disease, and is open to students in grades
1-12.
Social Service/Medical Referrals
Referrals are made when
individuals with sickle cell disease are in need of medical
services.
Pharmacy Referrals
Referrals are made in order
for the Association to purchase medication for clients on
an emergency basis. However, there is a $200 limit for each
client per fiscal year.
Transportation Assistance
Transportation is available
for sickle cell patients to and from medical or social service
agencies on an emergency basis (if no other transportation
is available to the client). Transportation is also available
for all students enrolled in the After School Tutorial Program,
in which each student is transported from school to the Association
and returned home once the tutoring session has ended.
