Executive Director, Linda W. Jones

Linda Jones

Linda W. Jones has served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Mobile, Chapter of the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America since 1998. Under her leadership, the Association has developed as its mission stated: "Empowerment through Knowledge-Comprehensive Programs and Services."  With her direction and oversight, the Association offers many services that include Client Education, Social & Support Services, Community Outreach, Counseling, After School Tutorial, Transportation and Special Events. 

Since becoming Executive Director, Jones has served as principal investigator for a National Institute of Health Community Outreach Grant with the collaboration of the  University of South Alabama Sickle Cell Comprehensive Center.  She also developed the proposal for the Newborn Screening and Counseling Grant awarded by the Maternal Child Health Bureau (MCHB).  Furthermore, Jones manages the Sickle Cell Diagnosis Laboratory, which performs tests for all sickle cell centers in Alabama and other centers across the country.  She also manages the Case Management Program, which is approved by Alabama Medicaid, for person with sickle cell disease.  In addition to her duties as Executive Director, Jones is not only the Administrator for the Alabama Sickle Cell Oversight and Regulatory Commission, but is currently President of the Alabama Chapter of the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America. 

Under her guidance, the Association has had several major accomplishments, such as the development of the first SCDAA-Mobile newsletter and the creation of the Association's first web-page.  For the past ten years, the Association has hosted the Ebony Fashion Fair, which serves as an annual fundraising event.  Most recently, in conjunction with its 30th Anniversary Celebration, the Association hosted "An Evening with Maya Angelou." 

Prior to SCDAA-Mobile, Jones worked as a healthcare professional in the City of Mobile.  A registered nurse by profession, Jones was the Director of Quality Management at the University of South Alabama Children and Women's Hospital for five years.  Also, while at Providence Hospital, she was Coordinator of Infection Control & Employee Health Program, Utilization Review Coordinator, Coordinator of Transition Management and Nurse Manager. 

Her other professional and civic affiliations include, membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Alabama Department of Public Health Newborn Screening Advisory Committee and State of Alabama At-Large Notary Public.  Jones's educational background includes graduate studies in executive health administration from Tulane University (New Orleans, LA), a degree in general studies from SpringHill College (Mobile, AL) and a diploma from the Providence School of Nursing (Mobile, AL).  She also received certification in professional healthcare quality from the Professional Board of the National Association of Healthcare Quality.
